ten months

This month has been a rough one for Justin (and the rest of us)!

I still don't know exactly what his problem was, but his sleep schedule was completely out-of-whack.  He rarely took naps, and woke up several times during the night for a few weeks.  He had a cold, but his ears were fine.  I was starting to wonder if he had pinworms just because his behavior was so unpredictable. It still has me baffled, but thankfully he is back to his old self now.

The sad part for me, was that in the middle of all this, he weaned himself.  Out of the blue, he started biting me (bite and rip...'til I bled) and refused to nurse.  When I finally gave him a bottle (out of desperation) he guzzled it down.  I was so sure I was going to be able to nurse him to a year, and I'm heartbroken that he stopped early.

funny tidbit: Justin drinks half of his bottle, and then wants to switch to the other side to finish it off :o)

At ten months, Justin:

-gets into EVERYTHING and puts it straight in his mouth
-weighs 19 lbs.
-wears 9-12 mos. clothes and a few 18 mos shirts
-loves to be where his brothers are (doesn't want to miss anything)
-loves to "groove" to music
-is now drinking formula and feeding himself puffs and cheerios
-has an obsession with electronic gadgets...cell phones, watches, cameras, you name it
-likes the song "If all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops" (especially the "tongue" part)
-knows and responds to his name AND nicknames: J.T.,  J-Tag, Justinator Tater, and our favorite...Tater-tot!
-signed milk twice (but hasn't done it since)
-doesn't like his crib at all (we used to put him down for a nap with no trouble...now he cries for a few minutes)
-has developed "selective object permanence"  (if you try to hide a cell phone, he knows it is there and will go to any length to obtain it.  However, if Mom leaves the room for a second, he is certain she no longer exists and does not take it lightly)
-needs a hair cut, especially over his ears but I'm too afraid of him looking like a "big boy" so I refuse to cut it.

The outfit Justin is wearing was a gift from Grandma Helen (Todd's grandma) to Caleb.  She picked it out the day before Caleb was born, and passed away the next day--within 20 minutes of Caleb's birth.

10 months was about when I quit nursing with all of mine. It seems to be a time when they get interested in other things... I don't know if they all did this, but I remember babies getting the milk started, then looking all over the room and refusing to drink (as I'm squirting across the room... sorry tmi, I know). Anyway, I'm sorry you weren't able to continue as long as you wanted, but I just wanted to let you know that's about when I quit too.

He's so adorable! I love your updates. :)

What a sweet boy. I swear I can't remember what it's like to have a baby around. It seems like my babies were a whole other life ago... which is ridiculous, of course, but it feels like that nonetheless.

I love his pudgy feet.

Ouch, I've never had a kid bite so hard that I bleed when nursing. That sounds so painful. I'm glad your little guy is better. I just took Jonathan into the doctor because he wasn't acting himself and he has an ear infection. I don't think I've ever had a baby that little with an ear infection. Thank goodness for antibiotics, although he just gags on it.
